This work was focused new technology of knee joint operation – a development of a new design, a new way of insertion and use of advanced production technologies. The solution described in this work proposes a personalised knee implant design (based on patient’s CT model of the bone), use of additive manufacturing technology - Electron Beam Melting (EBM) of Ti-Al-4V- ELI alloy, and new methodology of insertion of the implant. Furthermore, the diploma thesis analyses technological, mechanical and fatigue properties of the material. This diploma is really unique, because the output is patent pending. Unfortunately, that fact affected a little bit some information and sensitive data that can´t be published in full extent. Anyway, the collaboration with the student was extraordinarily excellent, the student is co-author of several published papers at scientific conferences and held even opening plenary lecture in the international scientific conference devoted to biomechanics and modern technologies in Roma, 2018. I fully recommend her work to the diploma defence.

The assessed diploma thesis is processed in accordance with the assignment at an excellent level. This is a work dealing with the production of individual orthopedic implants using modern additive technology Rapid Prototyping. The theoretical part of the work is focused on the characteristics of the additive technology Rapid Prototyping (Electron Beam Melting method), material analysis of the used additive powder material and anatomy of the knee joint. The practical part of the work deals with the implementation of a number of technological tests on test specimens made of biocompatible titanium alloy Ti6Al4V-ELI (material analysis) by the additive method Electron Beam Melting in order to determine their mechanical and fatigue properties. Part of the practical part of the work is the evaluation of the quality of produced samples using various measuring devices (e.g. Alicona Infinite Forces G4), which is associated with the analysis and overall recommendation of the optimal setting of printing parameters for the applied 3D device. In this part of the work the machinability of the tested alloy using various machining technologies (grinding, turning, milling, tumbling) using Kistler apparatus for evaluating the force load is solved. The main part of the work deals with the procedure (data acquisition and processing, computer modeling, control of output data) and the design of a new prototype of a femoral implant using the additive method Electron Beam Melting. The last part of the work deals with the surface treatment of functional surfaces of implants using the technology of grinding and tumbling. In this part of the work the innovation of the tibial part of the personalized implant, including the solution of articulating surfaces is also proposed. The work is completed by an overall evaluation of the production of new prototype implants from various additive materials together with the additive technology used in their production. It is obvious that the student paid considerable attention to the elaboration of the diploma thesis. In terms of graphics, the work is also processed at an excellent level. The student drew on the materials needed for her work from literary, professional and electronic sources (a total of 69 literary sources), on which she also relies. The student proceeded correctly in solving the diploma thesis. The presented results are convincing and are clearly arranged using pictures, tables and graphical dependencies. The work is clear and understandable. It follows from the above facts that the student has fulfilled the assignment in full. I recommend diploma thesis to defend.
